The ancient Japanese method of raku firing lends itself to
creating unique pottery. Each piece is removed from a gas
kiln at 1800 degrees and placed in sawdust. The
glaze crazes are blackened by smoldering sawdust. This
process is largely uncontrolled and the imperfections that
appear in the glaze are all part of the attraction
and excitement of raku glazing.
